Strategic leadership for humanitarian and development programmes in Darfur, with responsibility for institutional strengthening, programme quality, resource mobilization, team development, and partner coordination.

Programme Manager, North Darfur Office (April 2012 – March 2013), followed by Darfur Programme Manager (March 2013 – February 2017). Work covered rural development, food security, livelihoods, field-team leadership, and donor reporting.

Field monitoring of humanitarian interventions in North Darfur, including data collection, reporting, verification, and operational feedback.

Roles included National Program Officer, Senior Protection Assistant, and Assistant Protection Officer / Field Assistant. Contributions covered displacement and population monitoring, IDP registration and verification, protection programming, and humanitarian coordination. Mahmoud joined IOM while on unpaid leave from the Ministry of Agriculture.
1976 – 2007
Operations Officer (1976 – 2006) and Head of Agrarian Quarantine Department (2006 – 2007), with work in agricultural operations, plant protection, rural advisory support, and pest control. Ministry employment and subsequent IOM work should not be read as mutually exclusive periods: he was on unpaid leave from the Ministry when he joined IOM.
